Lesson 4 -Hide and Seek

Background for Teachers:

Introduces and elaborates on other sun protective behaviors including use of shade, limiting time in the sun, and wearing cover-up clothing.

Goal(s):

Illustrate to students that sunscreen is but one protective strategy.

Objective(s):

Describe three additional protective behaviors besides sunscreen use; list components of sun protective clothing; identify and evaluate different types of shade.

4.1 School Shade Expedition:
Students select and analyze six sources of shade from school grounds.

4.2 Shade Creators:
Utilizing materials found on school grounds, students create shade structures and then determine their effectiveness with aid of a flashlight.
